Montenegro

Montenegro was the last stop on the cruise. I arranged for a private tour with a local operator and 8 of us toured around. Before the cruise, I'd never heard of Montenegro so I looked it up and found out the following.

After the breakup of Yugoslavia, the republics of Serbia and Montenegro together established a federation known as the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, which was renamed to the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro in 2003. On the basis of an independence referendum held in May 2006, Montenegro declared independence and the federation peacefully dissolved on 3 June of that year.

Kotor - The ship arrived at Kotor, a fortified town on Montenegro's Adriatic coast. We met our driver who took us out of town and on to Budva. This set of pictures includes shots around Kotor, on the roadto Budva, and in the harbour as we left.

Our driver, Luka Debelnogic, is explaining where we\'ll be going.

Budva - Budva was a really scenic town. Our driver told us how inexpensive it is to live there and he suggested that you could rent a house for a month for much less money than trying to find a suitable hotel. Apparently the weather is usually pretty good there too so it sounds like a good place for a vacation.

From the road, looking down on the town of Budva.
