North Seymour Island
North Seymour is a small, uninhabited island on the north coast of Santa Cruz, and north of Baltra (the airport island). We took a day trip to North Seymour as part of a tour but with an excellent private guide named Daniela. Galapagos Alternative recommended using a private guide so that we could walk around at our own pace and we are glad that they did. After the island tour we were taken to a nearby beach for snorkeling but the pictures didn't turn out very well and there wasn't much sea life to observe.
Travel to North Seymour - This was our first day trip so we didn't know quite what to expect. It was a good choice because of all the wildlife we saw and the opportunity to get oriented on how the trips would work.
Frigatebirds of North Seymour - The frigatebirds are quite striking. The species found on North Seymour is called "magnificent frigatebird" and may be different to those found elsewhere. The birds seemed relatively unconcerned with our presence, so we were able to get a variety of close in photos to share.
Other North Seymour Wildlife - There was more to see on North Seymour than frigates, but we had such a front row seat to them that anything else pailed by comparison. Here are a few more creatures we enjoyed. After the walk, we went to our first snorkel opportunity which was mostly just wading around on a nice beach and checking out the underwater camera. I added a few shots here of the first attempt.
