The Sahara

The Sahara Desert was really amazing and no doubt will be the thing I remember the longest from this tour.

Journey to the Sahara - This first set of pictures is from the time we left Midelt until we reached the Desert Camp.

This Cafe was our first bio break. A nice little place to pick up a coffee or snack.

Sahara Desert Camp - It has been reorganized so that all of the desert tours operate from a single, permanent camp. There aremultiple sets of tents, and ours were side-by-side in one specific area, that could be contained and protected. This seems to make a lot more sense than riding into the desert and trying to set up a camp there (as was in the original writeup).

On arrival you are pointed to a table with Moroccan refreshments.

Sahara Camel Ride - Late in the afternoon, we were taken to a string of 12 camels that were waiting a short distance from our tents. After some basic training in how to mount, how to hold on, and how to dismount, we were walked into the desert. The plan was for us to see the sunset from the camels but unfortunately the sky was rather overcast so we didn't see any sunset nor did we see the stars in the night sky (supposed to be amazing). Regardless, there will be many memories from what we did see.

Sahara Party - After the camel ride, we went back to our tents, had dinner and were entertained by the local musicians.
