Sicily

On day two, our ship was docked in Messina, Sicily. Our research said that there was nothing interesting in Messina, so we joined a Godfather Tour that was organized by Eric Garceau, one of our fellow cruisers.

Savoca - Savoca is a municipality in the Province of Messina, located about 30 kilometres southwest of Messina. The town is really scenic, and together with Forza d'Agrò, was the location for the scenes set in Corleone of Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather.

This is our first look at the town of Savoca

Taormina - Taormina is a hilltop town on the east coast of Sicily. It sits near Mount Etna, an active volcano with trails leading to the summit. We stopped here for lunch and to browse around the streets.

This is the place where we were first let off the van. We had lunch at the second restaurant, just up the hill on the left.

Messina - Messina is a harbour city in northeast Sicily. I took a few pictures just before our return to the ship.

Astronomical Clock of the Cathedral of Messina. I found this shot on the Internet and borrowed it because I failed to get one myself. Very interesting to watch things move.
