South Plaza Island John's Photo Gallery

South Plaza Island

South Plaza is a small, uninhabited island on the east coast of Santa Cruz. We took a day trip to South Plaza as part of a tour with another private guide, named Enrique. This was our second day trip. It also ended with some snorkeling, this time snorkeling from the boat and it was a bit more successful than what we had tried in North Seymour.

Travel to South Plaza - As with North Seymour, the trip began with a bus ride to the boat dock at the north of Santa Cruz. We were on a different boat and it was a bit larger than the one for North Seymour. We were surprised to learn that many of the people who were joining us were in their 80's and we wondered how they were going to navigate the trails on South Plaza Island or snorkel.

South Plaza Vegetation and Iguanas - South Plaza is a very hot, dry island and offers no shade to speak of. As a result, it is a great home for land iguanas.

Other South Plaza Wildlife - Here are a few other critters that we saw there.
