Winter 2012 - December 15, 2011 to February 15, 2012 - Maui and Australia
After 2007, we frequently talked about going back to south east Asia. The idea was to do the same kind of trip in Australia as we did in New Zealand ... pick a handful of cities and do a week or so in each, then move on. Then Mike suggested that we start the trip in Maui over the Christmas holidays and he would join us there.
Fate intervened on this trip when Sharon broke her ankle in Melbourne and the weather became very rainy on the east coast of Australia. In New Zealand the drives between the towns we visited had been relatively manageable (most trips were under 300 km) but in Oz we pretty much needed to fly. So we got to know Jetstar (the Qantas low cost airline) very well and we learned to finish up our provisions each week and start fresh in the next place.
